Guild
Wars is an episodic serial of multiplayer internet role-playing games created by ArenaNet and released by NCsoft. Three stand-alone installments and one expansion pack were released in the series from April 2005 to August 2007.Guild Wars provides two primary modes of gameplay, a co-op role-playing element and a competitive player vs. player (PvP) element, both of which are hosted on ArenaNet's servers. The games portray the history of the fictitious fantasy world of Tyria, each campaign centering on events in disassociated sections of the world, but just about parallel in time.
A participant makes an avatar to roleplay through the co-op storyline of a campaign, assuming the persona of a hero who must deliver Tyria from episode-specific opponents. Players can group with additional players and non-player characters, called henchmen or heroes, to execute missions and quests discovered throughout the game world. PvP fighting is consensual, squad based, and confined to areas created for such combat. Players are permitted to produce characters at maximum level and the most effective equipment specifically for PvP play, which is strange for MMORPGs
